Hi!
It was fantastic to read about your research in FourFourTwo. I'd been pondering the same thing myself since I'd heard about Scotland fans claiming the Unofficial World Championship in the '60s. I was living in France at the time that they were reigning World Cup winners...Spain beat them and we beat Spain, so I told everyone that made us Unofficial Champs to wind them up.
As regards the debate between tracing the Champions from England vs Scotland or the first World cup, it was the latter that originally occurred to me, although I can see that logically, it has to be traced back to when there were only two teams.
Since the route from 1930 (first World Cup) leads to Angola too, can anyone enlighten me as to when to two theories first intertwined? I.e. which match led to both methods producing the same official Unofficial Champion?
And does that mean that they will now be the same for ever more? I might be mistaken, but surely now one cannot win one version of the title without the other?
A sterling effort!

PS. Well done for saving me the hassle of working it all out from scratch!

Yes, now the 1873 and 1930 routes have merged there will always be one undisputed holder of the title.
Great to hear from you. I too first found out about the site from the FourFourTwo article and was immediately hooked.
All the best

The routes merged in 1943, so now the only difference between the two methods involves the rankings.
