Using the rules as I understand them, I came up with the following for European Club competitions. The waters are muddied a bit when two-leg ties are to be considered, but that makes it more fun! Not having access to the relevant domestic games means it's of necessity restricted to European competition games only. I had to make a few arbitrary decisions which I've explained between the results and the rankings. Anyway....

· 1977: Despite beating Juventus in the second leg, Shakhtyor lost the tie, but retained their unofficial champions’ status until their next European tie, two years later.
· 1981: Despite beating Valencia in the second leg, Boavista lost the tie, but retained their unofficial champions’ status until their next European tie, four years later.
· 1986: Despite beating Real in the second leg, Cologne lost the tie, but retained their unofficial champions’ status until their next European tie, three years later.
· 1988: Stuttgart and Real Sociedad each won their home legs 1-0, and Stuttgart were awarded the tie, either by lots or penalties, but as Sociedad won the later leg, they retain their unofficial champions’ status until their next European tie, two seasons later.
· 1993: Following being found guilty of illegal affairs, Marseille were subsequently stripped of their official title as champions, and banned for a number of years. However, they retain their unofficial champions’ status until their next European tie, six seasons later.
