Do you know how many teams have been joint holders of world cup and u.f.w.c. and who they are?

Italy (June-Nov '39)
Uruguay (March '53 - April '54)
West Germany (4 matches in June 1958 during the World Cup)
Brazil (Gained UFWC in WC final June 1958, until Dec '59)
England (Also winning World Cup and UFWC simultaneously, until the famous Scotland match in April 1967)
West Germany (World Cup final July 1974 to March '75, and again Nov '76 - Feb '77)
Argentina (WC final June 1978 to July 1979)
Italy (First team to successfully defend the UFWC in a WC final: they won it in the semi-final on 8th July 1982, united it with the Official crown 3 days later, and retained it until the following October)
Argentina (Like Italy 4 years earlier, won title in the Semi final and united the titles in the final, in June 1986, retained until June 1987)
Brazil (March/April 1998, and again in the WC in July of the same year, gaining the UFWC in the semifinal, and handing both titles to France in the final)
France (WC final 1998 and for nearly a year thereafter, and again from July 2000 to March 2001)
Italy (Holders of both titles since 28th March)
When the World Cup final has also been a UFWC match: 1958: Sweden lost title to Brazil 1966: W Germany lost title to England 1974: Netherlands lost title to W Germany 1978: Netherlands lost title (again) to Argentina 1982: Italy retained title against W Germany 1986: Argentina retained title, also against W Germany 1998: Brazil lost title to France

Italy, by rising today to the top of the FIFA world Rankings, have earned something of a triple crown: they are ranking leaders, World Cup holders and reigning UWFC champions. This is not a unique acheivement though: Brazil managed it in March/April, and again in July, of 1998.

On the basis of the above, I would have to challenge the statement on the home page which states that Italy have been "Undisputed Football World Champions" more than any other nation. Brazil have also been "Undisputed Champion" three times: June '58-Dec 59, March-April 1998, and for 5 days in July 1998.

Looks like you are quite right Kevin - Brazil did lose the UFWC title to Argentina, but then regained it against the Netherlands, before losing to France - a correction will be forthcoming!
