Discrepancy between fifa.com & ufwc.co.uk results

I was doing some research on old UFWC results using the FIFA website, and I came across a match that seems to screw up the period from 21 April 1954 through 29 June 1958. Specifically, Brazil beat then-UFWC champions Paraguay 4-1 in a World Cup qualifying match on 21 April 1954; this is not reflected on UFWC.co.uk and presumably not in the rankings table.

It would not be for another 37 matches that this path reuintes with the current path -- Brazil re-gains this path of the UFWC title on 24 June 1958, just in time to defend (or, as was thought previously, win) it against Sweden on 29 June 1958 in the world cup final.

You are indeed right that FIFA state Paraguay lost 4-1 to Brazil on 21 April 1954. However, FIFA are wrong! The match was definitely on 21 March 1954, as verified by various sources. Therefore, when the match was played, Uruguay were still the UFWC champs, so this wasn't a UFWC match.

Ah. Thank you for the information! I was hoping to compile a more complete history of the continental championships (and all the sp00ns), but if FIFA are not to be trusted, I don't know who is... (Edit: I think I found the appropriate pages on the RSSSF website.)

I also saw a match that FIFA has as Mexico 2-0 Soviet Union when the USSR were champs, but UFWC.co.uk says the match was in leningrad, with the reverse score.
