The US won the second game against Sweden 3-0. Abby Wambach scored twice to bring her up to 109 international goals (!!). Their next game is likely to be in the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in October or November.

Incredibly world No1 USA got knocked over by Mexico in the Women's World Cup qualifiers on November 5.
Mexico then got beaten by Canada three days later so CANADA are the current Women's champs. They have a four-nation tournament in Brazil next month featuring Brazil, Mexico and the Netherlands.
Brazil will be a big chance to take the crown, the other two teams less likely.
The US hadn't lost for over 30 matches and over 2 years and they now have to play off against Italy to reach the WWC.

After Canada defeated Mexico to take the crown, they reeled off defenses against the Netherlands, Mexico, and Brazil twice in Brazil. They also defeated China in the opening match of the Four Nations tournament to extend their hold.
However, early on January 23, they lost their title defense to the USA 2-1 in the Four Nations Tournament. The United States is once again the Women's UFWC title holder.

Brilliant news as England scored a memorable 2-1 win over the mighty Americans at Leyton Orient on 2 April. Jess Clarke and Rachel Yankey put England 2-0 up, before Megan Rapinoe responded for the Americans. This match was the first ever meeting between the two nations in England.
England take the women's world title for the first time since 1987. It's the first time since October 2009 that the title has left North America.
The victory takes England up to equal seventh in the all-time women's UFWC rankings. A total of 18 nations have won the title, and they are ranked as follows:
1) United States 121 wins 2) Germany 55 wins 3) Sweden 47 wins 4) Norway 46 wins 5) China and Denmark 16 wins 7) England and North Korea 13 wins 9) France 11 wins 10) Brazil 10 wins 11) Canada 9 wins 12) Ukraine 5 wins 13) Italy 3 wins 14) Holland and Switzerland 2 wins 16) Belgium, Mexico and Scotland 1 win
England have scheduled a defence against Sweden in Oxford on 17 May. Can they take the title into the World Cup this summer? Watch this space...

If i didn't miss a planned friendly match on the way to WWC 2011 in Germany, we'll get to see the unofficial champ in the official tournament, no matter what. Am I right?
(England and Mexico - Swedens next friendly in case they take the title - in Grp B; Sweden in Grp C)

The title should be contested in Germany, yes, although it's always possible that some more friendlies will be arranged at short notice, so you never know!

England defended its title yesterday with a 2-0 defeat of Sweden. Unless they schedule an additional friendly, the next title defense will be June 27 against Mexico in the World Cup.

As discussed on the main site, FIFA lists England's 2-0 world cup warm-up defeat by Australia as official. Therefore, it appears that England lost the WUFWC in that game. The Australians then took the title into the FIFA World Cup, where they lost their opening match to Brazil. Brazil defend the title today in the quarter-finals against the USA.
Brazil are now on 13 WUFWC wins. A win today would move them onto 14, level with England (who themselves went above North Korea after beating Sweden in May).
See post on 6th April for full table.
