Who would be the current champions of just England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland? This is one way - <sort of> - of reviving the old British championship? Of course, it's not often that these teams meet any more, but that just adds to the prestige of being champions!

Well, starting off this list of matches is actually easy. Why? Because the history of the UFWC helps. Assuming this list also includes all FIFA-sanctioned matches, the UBFC (Unofficial British Football Championship) can be traced from it's orogins in 1892, up until March 28th 1931. I'm going to try to track down the history of the UBFC, but I would appreciate any help.

Okay, I tried this last year as promised, but went completely the wrong way around it, so gave up. I decided to try again yesterday, and it was alot easier than I thought it would be, and over the two days, I have been able to track the full history of the UBFC. Obviously, the UBFC changed hands on a regular basis when the old British Championships were still going, and even though there have been some periods of non-activity (there were no title matches whatsoever for over 5 years between 1999 and 2004), there are also periods of good activity (between 2004 and 2005, there were 5 title matches in just over a year, with the title changing hands 3 times). The curret champions are the Republic Of Ireland. They won the title from Wales 1-0 at home on 24/3/2007. They then defended the title in the return match in Wales, the match ending 2-2. They have yet to play anothr title match since, and as of yet there are no scheduled matches in the near future. Howver with the proposed 4 Associations' Tournament ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4_Associations_Tournament) scheduled to take place in 2011, and the possibility of friendly matches in the meantime, it shouldn't be long before the title is on the line again. I'll try to put up all the fixtures that have taken place over the next few days, as well as stats like who have held it the most.

Next year on 29 May (exactly 2 years after the match against Scotland) the Republic of Ireland will play against England.
