Mexico's win was one of the biggest shocks in the whole history of women's football! They had contested the women's UFWC title 11 times previously, and lost all 11. They had contested the CONCACAF title 24 times, with 1 draw and 23 defeats to show for it!
The Americans' record streak as CONCACAF champions (which began in July 2001) ends after 50 successful defences.
Mexico defend the title (as well as the CONCACAF title) on Monday against Canada.

Further update from the current women's competitions:
African title: Equatorial Guinea beat South Africa 3-1 (after extra-time), to qualify for the Women’s World Cup for the first time. They face Nigeria in Sunday’s African championship final.

Incidentally, Canada will take the women’s world and Concacaf titles into the Torneio Internacional Cidade de São Paulo next month; the tournament also features Brazil, Mexico and Holland.

Equatorial Guinea's fine run as women's African champions has finally come to an end, as they lost 4-2 in an exciting match to Nigeria. Nigeria thus regain the title that they have dominated since its inception in 1991.
Over in South America, bad news! Argentina, having won their first three group games, lost their final group game 1-0 to Ecuador; however, the victory was insufficient for Ecuador to progress, so the title will unfortunately go into premature hibernation with Ecuador as the new holders. It could be a long time before their first defence. Congratulations to Ecuador nonetheless; it's only the second time since it's inception in 1991 that the title has changed hands (Argentina's win over inaugural champs Brazil in 2006 was the first).
Peru lost 2-1 to Bolivia in their final chance of 2010 to offload the wooden sp00n. They thus face another lengthy spell as wooden sp00ners there.
Finally, in Asia, South Korea beat Vietnam 6-1 in their opening match of the Asian Games. Their next defence is tomorrow against Jordan.
The men are back in action on Wednesday.
Current holders (men’s title/ men’s sp00n ----- women’s title/ women’s sp00n):
World: Japan Macau ----- Canada Macedonia Europe: Greece Liechtenstein ----- Germany Macedonia South America: Peru Paraguay ----- Ecuador Peru Africa: Niger Seychelles ----- Nigeria Guinea-Bissau Asia: Uzbekistan Macau ----- South Korea Guam CONCACAF: Mexico Anguilla ----- Canada Turks & Caicos Islands Oceania: Fiji Tonga ----- New Zealand American Samoa

Greece won with a little bit of luck by 2-1 versus Austria, thus defending their title. Niger managed to defend their title as well as they drew 1-1 versus Lybia.
On the dark side of the moon, Liechtenstein has once again failed to offload the UEFA sp00n - this time they got close, but their 1-1 draw versus Estonia just wasn't enough.
Current holders (men’s title/ men’s sp00n ----- women’s title/ women’s sp00n):
World: Japan Macau ----- Canada Macedonia Europe: Greece Liechtenstein ----- Germany Macedonia South America: Peru Paraguay ----- Ecuador Peru Africa: Niger Seychelles ----- Nigeria Guinea-Bissau Asia: Uzbekistan Macau ----- South Korea Guam CONCACAF: Mexico Anguilla ----- Canada Turks & Caicos Islands Oceania: Fiji Tonga ----- New Zealand American Samoa[/quote]
I will check schedules tomorrow and post upcoming UFWC matches then.

Rep. of Korea (South) lost its title to their northern "brothers" DPR Korea in the semi-final of the women's tournament of the Asian Games 2010 (1-3 aet). North Korea then took the AFC title to the gold medal match, only to loose unofficial title and official gold medal to Japan by 0-1 there. So now Japan is Men's world champion and Women's AFC champion, a good year for japanese football Current holders ( men’s title/ men’s sp00n ----- women’s title/ women’s sp00n): World: Japan Macau ----- Canada Macedonia Europe: Greece Liechtenstein ----- Germany MacedoniaSouth America: Peru Paraguay ----- Ecuador PeruAfrica: Niger Seychelles ----- Nigeria Guinea-BissauAsia: Uzbekistan Macau ----- Japan GuamCONCACAF: Mexico Anguilla ----- Canada Turks & Caicos IslandsOceania: Fiji Tonga ----- New Zealand American SamoaNext match: 9th December - Canada vs. Netherlands (Women's World title)

A slight amendment I have just discovered. Niger's 1-1 draw with Libya on 17th November was followed by a penalty shoot-out, which Libya won 4-1. So it is Libya who are now the African champions, for the very first time.
Current holders (men’s title/ men’s sp00n ----- women’s title/ women’s sp00n):
World: Japan Macau ----- Canada Macedonia Europe: Greece Liechtenstein ----- Germany Macedonia South America: Peru Paraguay ----- Ecuador Peru Africa: Libya Seychelles ----- Nigeria Guinea-Bissau Asia: Uzbekistan Macau ----- Japan Guam CONCACAF: Mexico Anguilla ----- Canada Turks & Caicos Islands Oceania: Fiji Tonga ----- New Zealand American Samoa
Next match overall: 9th December, as per previous post

Canadas ladys won against the Netherlands by 5-0 (!!) and will defend their title versus Mexico on 12th December. This time not only their world title is at stakes, but also their CONCACAF title. This is also the next UFWC match overall.

Canadas women's team defended their title another two times. First they won 1-0 against Mexico and then they drew versus Brasil 0-0. Canada seems to have some sort of a drive there, so I'm curious wheather they can keep up the good shape until WC 2011 in Germany. Their next sheduled match is round 1 in WC 2011 on 26th June against host Germany, but very likely they'll play other testmatches before the tournament.
The next UFWC match overall will be on 2nd January, when Jordan takes on Uzbekistan to fight for AFC men's title.
