Dear all,
I have found some time to have a look at the newspapers at the British Library in the last couple of days and have made some progress (albeit very small).
After CUF Barreiro won their UEFA Cup match against Racing White, they lost to Setubal in a Portuguese league match who in turn lost their UEFA Cup match to that well known side Zaglebie Sosnowiec from Poland.
Therefore in the space of three matches the title has swung from west to eastern Europe from Belgium to Portugal to Poland.
I have found the Polish league results (with dates) and the cup matches (no dates unfortunately) so will let you know what progress I make.
Cheers,
Steve

I eventually found the Polish league and cup results and the trail led me through to Dynamo Dresden beating Ruch Chorzow in the UEFA Cup 2nd round 2nd leg match in November 1972.
The title remained in the old East Germany until September 1974 when it is now in Czechoslovakian league with Sparta Prague.
Anybody able to assist with these results?
Unfortunately, we were one match away from the title coming back to England with Wolves in October 1973. If only Lokomotiv Leipzig hadn't lost a league game to FC Mageburg in between!

Hi Niall,
The latest update is that the championship is in the Czechoslovakia at present. Not the most easiest of places for it to be but I did spend some time at the British Library a few weeks ago looking through the Czech papers for the next games. We're now in early 1975.
We were yet again one game away from the championship going to West Germany with Borussia Moenchengladbach but the Czech tean lost a league game!
Unfortunately, I ran out of time in London and work has been extremely busy so will envisage going back there in the next couple of months or so.
Will let you know any further information as soon as I have it. If anybody is able to assist with the Czech league and cup results from the 1974-75 season, please let me know!
Cheers,
Steve

Dear all,
Sorry to have not posted for a while! I haven't forgotten this but just haven't had a chance to further the research!
I have some time at the British library with some Czech newspapers on Wednesday so will hopefully be able to provide a bit more of an update in due course.
Cheers,
Steve

Great job, but there are only European teams But, which is the current holder? That's exactly what Steve is trying to find out. But before he knows that, he has to search chronologically through the history of international football. That's a hard job! Finding a specific 35 years old newspaper from a foreign country is not easy. So thumbs up for Steve! BTW Steve, have you had any success in finding Czech results so far?

Oh, yes. That's is very hard, but i say that there are no american's teams that would be champions in the past.
Steve does the impossible for this topic, this is amazing

Hi all - thanks for all your support. Unfortunately, the job has got in the way (as usual).
However, we are lurking around Christmas 1974 still in the Czech league. My brother (who is employed by Match magazine here in the UK) has found a contact in Slovakia who may be able to assist.
Haven't quite got round to e-mailing them yet but should be able to in the next few days! I don't have my notes to hand at present but will update you with where we're at as well shortly.
Cheers, Steve

Ok - quite update for all the viewers!
Have had a chance to review the route and found that Dynamo Dresden lost to Liverpool in a UEFA Cup game in February 1973. Therefore, have not needed the Czech results after all!!
We have now managed to find our way through to November 1975 where Ipswich Town have lost to Bruges in another UEFA Cup game and am now passing through the Belgian results!
Will update in due course.
Regards,
Steve

Things are now continuing to move apace!
Bayern Munich have taken over as champions after defeating Anderlecht in the Super Cup final 1st leg in August 1976.
Heading into the German results now!
Cheers,
Steve

The title is now with Bonner SC who stole the title from Bayer Leverkusen in May 1977 during a 1-0 win in the Bundesliga Nord. Unfortunately, the team were then relegated to the Verbandsliga Mittelrhein. The club have the results on their website but no dates. I have contacted the club and will await to hear from them. Any assistance anybody can provide would be much appreciated. I am due to publish the results on my website in the month's ahead so keep a look out at www.steve.footballfans.co.uk. Thanks, Steve

Hi southendboy71,
i think, you made a little mistake. In 1977 there was no "Bundesliga Nord" as the regional system united for a nation-wide league in 1963.
But the second tier (called 2. Bundesliga) was split in two halfes calls "Nord" and "Süd" - Bonner SC was relegated to tier 3.
