If anyone is interested, I have worked out the history of the European and South American championships. This will no doubt be of particular interest if you are Croatian or Uruguayan!
Incidentally, "a" after a country's name means they were world champions at the same time, whilst "b" means they were world champions for part of that particular reign.

England have never held one title without the other, except for the three days in 1950 between giving up the world title to the USA, and the European title to Spain. They did challenge for the European title last October against Croatia, but we all know what happened there! They may get another chance later this year.
