Internacional's reign as Recopa Mundial champions was short-lived, as three days after capturing the trophy, São Paulo paid the Porto Alegre side a visit and beat the holders 2x0. This was the first time in 12 years a Campeonato Brasileiro game doubled up as a Recopa Mundial contest, and led to the 16th success for the highest ranked Brazilian club in both the Oosterpark Rankings and the all-time table of World Supercup clashes.

That result means we'll get to witness one final Recopa Mundial contest before the start of the World Cup. On June 6, São Paulo host Grêmio.

São Paulo coasted to a 3x1 win over Grêmio yesterday, to extend their hold on Recopa Mundial by at least seven weeks as due to World Cup interference the next title bout isn't until their visit to Santos on July 25.

So, Recopa Mundial has changed hands again. An own goal by Renato Silva consigned São Paulo to a 1x0 defeat at Santos, meaning Pele's old club won the trophy for the 10th time in their history.
The result prevents the Recopa from being at stake in the Copa Libertadores semi final between the side that just lost hold of it, and Internacional. Nevertheless, Internacional ARE the next challengers to the title, as on August 8 they'll visit Santos in the league.

Does anyone have any details on why the game was completely cancelled? It seems pretty unusual...

I suppose it had something to do with allowing Internacional sufficient time to prevent them Mexicans from nicking Copa Libertadores Game rescheduled for October 14 it seems.

Deep into stoppage time, Santos were level with Grêmio in their August 26 league meeting. That in itself would've been enough for a successful title defence, but Rodriguinho made his club's 11th Recopa Mundial triumph all the sweeter by adding a winning goal. Santos' next title defence will take place at Flamengo on September 5.

Santos again successfully defended Recopa Mundial, this time through a goalless draw at 1981 World (ok, intercontinental) Champions Flamengo. That takes the club to three consecutive titles. Remarkably, all three games were away from home. That should make their next title bout, which IS a home game, a walk in the park right? Think again: Corinthians come to town on 22 September, which makes it a game between the third and second placed teams (at the time of writing) in this season's Serie A.
Boca Juniors, 84 River Plate, 58 Estudiantes, 44 Independiente, 41 Vélez Sarsfield, 23 São Paulo, 17 Racing Club, 16 Peñarol, 13 Santos, 12 Olimpia, 9 AC Milan, 6 Real Madrid, 6 Nacional, 5 Grêmio, 3 Flamengo, 1 Internacional, 1 Juventus, 1

On 22 September, Corinthians joined the ranks of Recopa Mundial winners. The 2000 FIFA Club World Championship winners came from 2x1 down at holders Santos to eventually win 3x2. Paulo André's goal on 70 minutes turned out to be the winner. The newly-crowned World Super Cup champions are also top of the Brazilian league, as they target a first domestic league title since 2005. Corinthians' reign will be challenged as early as this Sunday, when they travel to none less than Copa Libertadores holders Internacional. Europe's hopes of getting another shot at the trophy rest on the latter recapturing Recopa Mundial before the FIFA Club World Cup in December. Sunday may well represent the last chance of keeping a potential Abu Dhabi showdown alive.

September 26 saw Corinthians lose Recopa Mundial during their first-ever title defence. Away at Internacional, the holders came back from a goal down twice, lastly through a last minute penalty kick, but even closer to the final whistle, Andrezinho ensured the Colorado had the last laugh.
As a result, an Inter v Inter clash for both the Club World Cup and Recopa Mundial in December remains possible. However, the Porto Alegre side's full path to a mouthwatering cross-Atlantic title bout consists of difficult trips to Santos (Oct 13), Flamengo (Oct 16), Gremio (Oct 24) and a home game against Santos on October 30.
Boca Juniors, 84 River Plate, 58 Estudiantes, 44 Independiente, 41 Vélez Sarsfield, 23 São Paulo, 17 Racing Club, 16 Peñarol, 13 Santos, 12 Olimpia, 9 AC Milan, 6 Real Madrid, 6 Nacional, 5 Grêmio, 3 Internacional, 2 Corinthians, 1 Flamengo, 1 Juventus, 1

Didn't even manage to put that last update on www.clubworldrankings.com until it became old news! Anyways: Santos didn't waste any time in regaining Recopa Mundial. Corinthians, who had recently taken the trophy from them, managed to lose it to Internacional on 26 September, only for Inter to succumb to a Neymar goal on 27 minutes when the Colorado visited Santos on 13 October. The game, rescheduled from its original 8 August date due to a clash with Copa Libertadores, may dramatically shorten the remaining number of Recopa Mundial ties this calendar year. Santos visit São Paulo this weekend (Oct 17), If they manage to avoid defeat, Internacional will have a shot at revenge on the 30th, with two further Santos defences lined up afterwards, but defeat at São Paulo means only the São Paulo x Corinthians game on November 7 will double up as a 2010 Recopa Mundial title bout. Boca Juniors, 84 River Plate, 58 Estudiantes, 44 Independiente, 41 Vélez Sarsfield, 23 São Paulo, 17 Racing Club, 16 Peñarol, 13 Santos, 13Olimpia, 9 AC Milan, 6 Real Madrid, 6 Nacional, 5 Grêmio, 3 Internacional, 2 Corinthians, 1 Flamengo, 1 Juventus, 1 -------------------------------- Also eligible for Recopa Mundial contests: Internazionale, Feyenoord, Ajax, Atlético Madrid, Bayern München, FC Porto, Crvena zvezda, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United, Barcelona

In a high-scoring game at Morumbi, São Paulo pretty much ended Recopa Mundial activity for 2010. Taking on holders Santos, the home side came back from a 4th minute goal by Alan Patrick Lourenço through a brace by Dagoberto. In the 19th minute, São Paulo doubled their lead to 3x1 through an own goal by Santos' Pará. Yet only moments later, Zé Eduardo reduced the deficit to a single goal. Five goals in twenty minutes then, which promised a lot for the rest of the game.
There weren't to be too many further goals, but drama aplenty. Twenty minutes before the end of the game, Neymar grabbed his 10th of the league campaign from the penalty spot. The 18-year-old was responsible for the only goal in the game against Internacional which brought Recopa Mundial to Santos earlier in the week, and appeared to have done enough to retain the trophy for his side. Jean Raphael Vanderlei Moreira had other ideas though. With time running out and the clock on 90+2 already, the midfielder headed home the rebound when Rafael could only parry an attempt at his goal. Jean became the hero for São Paulo, winning the game 4x3 for them. The multiple Brazilian champions may have left it too late to mount a serious title challenge (10 points adrift with 8 games to go), but they are the new Recopa Mundial champions and deny all of us the chance to see the trophy contested at the Club World Cup in December.
Now, only the 7 November game against Corinthians is left on the 2010 Recopa Mundial schedule.
Boca Juniors, 84 River Plate, 58 Estudiantes, 44 Independiente, 41 Vélez Sarsfield, 23 São Paulo, 17 Racing Club, 16 Peñarol, 13 Santos, 13 Olimpia, 9 AC Milan, 6 Real Madrid, 6 Nacional, 5 Grêmio, 3 Internacional, 2 Corinthians, 1 Flamengo, 1 Juventus, 1
